It’s that time of year again, when various singing groups and symphonies break out that oh-so-famous choral masterpiece: Handel’s “Messiah.” And, as is usually the case, you’re invited to sing along! Here’s a couple of places where you can join in on the messianic musical merriment:
When: Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 4 p.m.
Who: San Francisco City Chorus
Where: Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 201 Eucalyptus Dr. (@ 19th Ave.)
Anything Else?: Tickets are $10; vocal scores will be provided, or feel free to bring your own.
When: Monday, December 7, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
Who: San Francisco Sinfonietta and Chorus
Where: Mission Dolores Basilica, 3321 16th St.
Anything Else?: Tickets required, but I didn’t see a price listed on the Web site.

Hi, the Sinfonietta S-I-Y Messiah tickets are going for $30/($15 students); they’ve got the ticket link up now at http://www.sfsinfonietta.org.
Also, the San Francisco Academy Orchestra and four choral soloists are performing “backup” at a major Sing-It-Yourself Messiah at Calvary Presbyterian Church (2515 Fillmore at Jackson) on Sunday, Dec. 20, 4pm. All area choirs and amateur singers are invited to both the concert and a day-before workshop (Dec. 19; 10-12pm), in which participants will learn info about the Messiah score, and rehearse parts of the music (the concert will only feature the Christmas portions and the Hallelujah Chorus of the Messiah, and therefore will take only one hour to perform, vs. 2.5 for the entire score). Ticket sales are $20/($15 students & seniors), with scores available for $1 loan or $5 purchase. All net proceeds will benefit the SF Food Bank. Full info at http://www.calvarypresbyterian.org or http://www.sfacademyorchestra.org

Excellent! Thanks for the heads-up! The SF Food Bank is a great cause; I’m thrilled that the proceeds will go towards benefitting such an important organization.
