The Scene is an experiment in exploring the world of free live music in San Francisco. The idea came into being when yours truly ended up a casualty of the 2008 economic downturn and joined the ranks of the jobless. Suddenly, paying a $20 or even $10 cover to see a live show was no longer an option.

And then, I heard the carillon angels sing:

Lo! An entire world of free live music splays itself before you! Go forth, explore, discover, and report back!

I hear and I obey.
