Hello, beautiful readers! I apologize for being absent these last few weeks. The good news is that The Scene is now once again gainfully employed — yay! Paying bills = happy blogger!
That being said, I’m working on re-vamping the writing schedule for The Scene so that you will continue to get the high quality, reliable, and variegated kind of information that you’ve come to expect from this site. Look to April as the resumption of all things The Scene! And I thank you for sticking with me through this transition. It’ll be worth it, I swear!
In the meantime, at the beginning of this post I embedded a little something from The Mummyshots, a band that The Scene will be reviewing (if all goes as planned) in April — enjoy!
Well, tonight I learned a new lesson: always call a venue to get verbal confirmation that a particular show is actually happening! Turns out, the band is “still on vacation,” and so The Scene will have to review this show another time. I’ll let all y’all know. And I apologize for any confusion — it’s a process, people!
On Monday, January 11, 2010, The Scene will be reviewing Glenn Farr & Friends at The Chieftain Authentic Irish Pub & Restaurant in San Francisco’s SOMA District. The details are as follows:
What: Glenn Farr & Friends (Celtic Music)
Where: The Chieftain, 198 5th Street (between Natoma & Howard)
When: 9 p.m. to ? (waiting for a call back to confirm how late the music goes)
Anything Else?: The Chieftain has live celtic music every Monday night beginning at 9 p.m.; please note that this is the start time for the Winter months; normally, the live music begins at 7 p.m.
Hey, gang! I’ve got some good news and some bad news. First, the bad, ’cause I’m a rip-off-the-Band-Aid kind of gal:
There will not be a December 12th T-Licious Thursday event.
But here’s the good news: the reason the event has been canceled — or, as I like to think of it, postponed until January — is because Theresa Perez has been asked to perform at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo! How cool is that?
So, while we may justifiably be disappointed that we won’t get our monthly dose of feel-good, positive-vibin’, funky latin soul jam music this month, we may also be truly delighted that one of our city’s best is being offered this fantastic opportunity.
Congratulations, Theresa!

So, I know that I had T-Licious Thursdays listed as a “Coming Up” event back in November, and that I never actually posted the review, but there’s a good reason for that: Due to a scheduling conflict, I missed Theresa Perez’s solo set. So, while I could tell you quite a bit about T-Licious Thursdays itself — and believe me, it’s worth knowing! — I still want to hold to my commitment to specifically give you a review of Ms. Perez’s music and her performance. Therefore, I am once again happily going to be at T-Licious Thursdays for December! And if you like a feel-good sing-along time, or music with a positive vibe that makes you wanna move, you’ll be there, too!
Here are the deets: Thursday, December 12th, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Duboce Park Cafe.
Hey, gang! I know this is super last-minute, but the stars have aligned, and it looks like I’m gonna be able to hit the Mission Three show tonight at Revolution Cafe! Woo-hoo! Here are the deets:
Who: The Mission Three When: Thursday, November 19th @ 8:45 p.m. Where: Revolution Cafe, 3248 22nd St. Anything Else?: Nope! Hope to see you there!
Happy Hump Day, lovely ladies and lads! Just a quick heads-up:
Next Thursday (November 12th), I will be going to the T-Licious show at Duboce Park Cafe to review Theresa Perez. Plus, Ms. Perez has been gracious enough to agree to do an interview a couple of days beforehand. Got any questions for her? Send an e-mail to info@hearfreelivemusic.com by 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009.
